Participating in our Ceramic Workshops is an experience that is not limited to learning the techniques of working, in fact, you will feel welcomed into our family, get to know us and be our guest, to experience a sharing of our Sicilian traditions. Buy workshop | “My name is Agata, I attended the Art Institute for Ceramics when I was young, and for more than 40 years I have been working together with my husband and now our daughters and son-in-law in the workshop where we produce artistic ceramics. That of the potter is an ancient craft, a tradition acquired by my father-in-law and passed down from father to son, in the wonderful setting of Caltagirone, a famous town that has been known for centuries for its fine and colorful majolica. For many years we have been opening our company to visiting groups on field trips to Caltagirone, to show the fascinating stages of pottery making, and also including in the circuits the possibility of participating in pottery courses, both individual and for families, groups and school groups, with the Educational Laboratory. We like the idea of making ours an Open Factory that everyone can share.” |
Educational workshops for groups and school groups
At our CEAR Company in Caltagirone, it is possible to participate in the“EDUCATIONAL LABORATORY” pottery course, a project designed for schoolchildren and all those who wish to participate. Pottery making is an art that is passed down from father to son, just as it was and is in CEAR. Pottery classes give the opportunity to learn this ancient art and see it materially realized by one’s own hands, through the processes of molding, glazing and decorating, the latter being the ultimate expression of pottery.
The Teaching Workshop takes place over half a day, most often in the morning. Upon arrival at the Company, staff will make themselves available for demonstration of the various processing steps, while they will be commented on and explained appropriately. This will continue with the start of the workshop, which will involve about half of the pupils carrying out a molding experience under the guidance of a tutor, while the other half will carry out enameling and decorating tasks; mid-morning the tasks will be reversed.
The ‘Company provides classes, when weather permits, with the outdoor courtyard (not provided with tables or chairs) for sack lunches.
The Teaching Lab includes:
- Materials such as clay, semi-finished products, glazes and colors
- Employment of ns. staff for the duration of the Workshop
- Firing of decorated objects
- Delivery for each participant of a brochure explaining all processing steps
Shipping costs for delivery of the various items made is the responsibility of the Institute or the organizing body.
Individual or group pottery course for adults
The experience begins with a guided tour of our company where all the various stages of processing will be explained to you in detail, and we will also give you a brochure as a souvenir where you will find written down everything that will be explained to you verbally.
Through this Workshop you will be able to make objects with clay, later we will choose others together in clay, and after glazing them by gently dipping them to get them covered with the same, you will experience decorating them with the different techniques: freehand drawing, dusting or stencil mask. You will be able to decorate one or more pieces, which after baking for 48 hours will be shipped to your address.
The Course includes:
- Materials such as clay, semi-finished products, glazes and colors
- Employment of ns. staff for the duration of the Workshop
- Firing of artifacts
- Issuance of a “Certificate of Participation”
Shipping costs for delivery of the various items made is the responsibility of the participants.
